Saint Gabriel was the archangel tasked with blowing the trumpet that warned of Judgment Day. That the horn has not yet been heard has lead many to believe that this is not yet the end times. In any case, the watchful angel is seen as an appropriate caretaker of this little, pounded earth fort.It consists of walls built up of dirt, pounded thick and hard, and moats on all four sides that provided the earth for the ramparts. One gateway faces north toward the wild and is almost always closed. The other faces south toward the Monastery and is usually open during the day. The fort marks the furthest northern boundary of the Monastery, and is manned by a sizable contingent of Brothers Militant, tasked with keeping watch and preventing mischief and danger from entering the Monastery's grounds. In honor of the fort's patron saint, a horn has been made that sits in the fort commander's office. In the event of danger to the Monastery itself, an invasion or something like it, the commander is charged with blowing the horn as a warning to the Monastery's inhabitants.
